History

 As Government of West Bengal initiated to extend the reach of technical education in remote parts of the state, Birbhum being one such district with single polytechnic at that point of time, establishment of Murarai Government Polytechnic was proposed in the Murarai-I block with high concentration of tribal and minority population. A land of five acres near the western border of the district was identified for this purpose.
In 2015, the first batches were admitted for the Diploma Programmes of ELECTRONICS AND COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING and SURVEY ENGINEERING. As construction works were ongoing, classes started in the campus of MIT, Berhampur for the initial Semester. Classes in the new campus started in January, 2016. The institute celebrates its foundation day on 4th January, since then.
A new Diploma Programme of COMPUTER SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY started in 2018.
Noticeable socio-economic growth can easily be identified in this rural part, since the establishment of this institute.
