Established in 1957, Purulia Polytechnic is one of the oldest Polytechnic in the country. Since then, it has been a prominent centre of technical education in Purulia district. Initially, it started with three Engineering branches namely Civil,Electrical, Mechanical at a temporary makeshift arrangement at Purulia Zilla School. Subsequently, after the construction of the the main buildings it shifted to its campus at Bongabari where it is situated now. In the year 1996 and 2009 two more Engineering branches namely Electronics and Telecommunication and Metallurgical respectively were introduced making the total number of branches to five providing 3 years diploma in Engineering.
