Bishnupur is a city of Temple in the District of Bankura in West Bengal. Bishnupur is also known as Mallabhum as the Malla dynasty ruled over Bishnupur. The Malla rulers were Vaishnavites and built many famous terracotta temples during the 17th and 18th century at this place. The people of Bishnupur were very expert in different techniques in making Terracotta craft, Baluchari sarees, Dokra and many more. The architectural design of the temples was also attractive. During that time Honourable Krishna Gopal Ghosh (also known as Kristo Gopal Ghosh) was the Sub Divisional Officer of Bishnupur. He felt the need of Technical Education to support the people of Bishnupur. Then he established K. G. Engineering Institute in 1922. The name K. G. Engineering Institute is as per the name of the then SDO Honourable Krishna Gopal Ghosh. This institute was established as a small Industrial School set up in 1922. Later it was converted to a full-fledged polytechnic in 1949.
