Like other hilly subdivisions of Darjeeling and Kurseong , the Kalimpong subdivision situated on the other side of the Teesta River, also happens to be one of the educational hubs in the hilly region. After the creation of Kalimpong district by splitting the district of Darjeeling, a number of educational institutes have been established in this District as well. Pedong Government college, Gorubathan ITI to name a few. Along with these Institutes, need of a Technical Institute was also felt by the Government for the people of this newly created district and its adjoining areas. Hence to cater to the need of the hilly people towards technical education, this polytechnic was established in 2019 which started its Academic Activity from the last session of 2019-20. Also the engineering disciplines to be run in this Institute are different from the existing Polytechnic at Kurseong. Hence, the students will have wider choice of engineering disciplines and they could opt for the choice of their liking and interest.
